Wet Houses

An interesting concept: taking known alcoholics with poor recovery expectancy and allowing them to drink in a safe place. The result? A $1,500/month cost that offsets what would be a $4,000/month cost if these people were on their own.

CNN - Where Alcoholics Can Drink

Of course, there are people on both sides of this idea. Addiction counselors in general are opposed to the wet house model. Those who created the program feel different. "They didn't want to be an alcoholic. A lot of them just didn't have a choice in the matter...this provides safe secure housing for those most in need. We are in business to do the humane thing."
